I'm a Scottish born artists now based in Stavanger. I was educated in drawing and painting and have worked also with music/audio installation digital prints and comic illustration.
My current work is in pencil and ink and explores the tension between digital precision and human gesture.
Each piece begins as an inkjet print composed of sparse pixel lines and geometric fragments, hand drawn using retro art software. minimal marks that suggest the language of data and compressed information. Onto this is drawn shapes and lines in heavy pencil, pushing the medium toward smudges, blurred masses, and organic disruptions. The drawings suggest a negotiation between two incompatible systems, the rigidity of the printed pixels and the intuitive motion of graphite smeared across the surface. The pencil marks refuse containment, they overwrite and distort the digital grid beneath them. What emerges is a hybrid space where structure dissolves into atmosphere. These works question what it means to make images in a world shaped by both algorithm and touch. They inhabit a liminal zone between order and erosion, signal and noise. They are records of interference. Computational, and material coexisting on the same surface.
